Care of Hand Beaded Jewelry

Hand beaded jewelry is precious jewelry, not costume jewelry, and should be treated as such. Care should be taken when wearing and storing your jewelry. When properly cared for your jewelry will last you for years to come.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to high heat and/or direct sunlight.
  • Jewelry must never be worn in the shower, or while swimming. Do not wear while working out or if sweating excessively.
  • Be cautious of perfumes or hair styling products sprayed on the beads. It is advised to put on jewelry after applying perfume or styling products.
  • Jewelry can cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth, with the exception of fresh water pearls. Fresh water pearls can be wiped gently with a dry soft cloth. Be gentle and avoid excessive rubbing on pearls or stones.
  • Store your jewelry in a clean, dry location, out of direct sunlight.
  • Necklaces should be laid flat. Hanging handmade beaded necklaces is not recommended as the wire will stretch over time.
  • Jewelry that is worn continuously should be restrung every 2 years.
  • Beads can break or shatter when dropped. Take care to not drop jewelry on hard surfaces or to get knocked around in boxes or against other jewelry. If moving jewelry wrap each piece individually in tissue or paper towels.
  • Do not pull or yank on handmade beaded jewelry. Crimps can only hold so much weight and can be pulled out if pulled hard enough.

Please Note: Beads can be a choking hazard and should be kept out of reach of small children.
