handmade jewelry by christin "leXi" davies
I began altering my jewelry as a teenager in the mid-eighties. I was a fan of Madonna and I would try to make jewelry that was like hers. Years later, I was happily making altered art. Testing out some a new permanent alcohol based stamping ink, I was looking for new ways to use the ink. While shopping at Dayton's, I saw some bracelets made with Mah Jong tiles and found my inspiration. Using the ink I stamped images onto the back sides of dominos and used them in collage art pieces. I still wanted to make these more than just art to hang on a wall and decided I could drill the dominos and make them into beads. A very dear friend of mine, was an avid beader and worked at a local bead shop. I went to her for help, and she was kind enough to teach me how to bead. The rest is history as they say. I fell in love with beading, and had a unique twist to it. That was over 15 years ago. I have sold my jewelry at an antique shop, art fairs, and the Minneapolis Farmer's Market. I have won several awards for my jewelry over the years as well. The NAC best booth award in 2003, Convergence Art Show Best Amateur Collection 2008, and in 2010, I placed 4th in the Soft Flex Company "Flex Your Creativity" National Contest. Here I share with you a photo show of my favorite necklaces and pictures. Enjoy!
